The Hotel Okura Tokyo has decided to sell the furniture from the guestrooms, restaurants, and banquet rooms of the old Main Building, which closed for reconstruction on August 31, 2015, to allow guests to share the memories. The proceeds from the sale will be used to support musical activities that are part of the social contributions made through the continuous mécénat activities Hotel Okura Tokyo has provided in the areas of music, art, and international exchange.
Items for sale will include furniture such as tables and chairs from guestrooms and restaurants, and goods created from patterned wallpapers and carpets from the banquet rooms and public spaces. The decorations and fixtures from the lobby of the old building will not be offered for sale, since they will be restored in the new Main Building reopening in 2019.
To carry out this project, service and sales will be provided by “reU funding,” a reuse-type crowdfunding service jointly run by DENTSU Inc. and Yahoo Japan Corporation (from October 27), and “Ticket Pia,” Japan’s largest ticket selling website run by PIA Corporation, both of whom have expressed support for Hotel Okura Tokyo’s mécénat activities. The items offered for sale only in Japan will be shown on each company’s dedicated website from November 4.
Through its mécénat activities, Hotel Okura Tokyo has supported young musicians, and offered the hotel’s lobby as the venue for concerts. Based on these experiences, the proceeds from the sale will be donated to organizations such as the Friends of El Sistema Japan, which conducts musical activities in Soma City, Fukushima Prefecture, and Otsuchi-cho, Iwate Prefecture. The donation is expected to be used for maintenance of instruments and other purposes.
