An extension of our policy to give back to society through the promotion of cultural activities, the Finest Collections of Prestigious Japanese Families charity event began in 2010 as a way to contribute to the development of world education and culture, while at the same time introducing a new food culture according to Japanese design. Profits from the event are donated to the Red Cross of Japan, who uses the donations to provide stationery items and sporting goods to underprivileged children across the world. For many years, the three concepts of “hospitality, design, and presentation” have been considered as one and passed down as such. These concepts have been conveyed through the nobility’s day to day life and banquets. At each event, the meeting of east and west, as well as the merging of courtesy and beauty is apparent. With the kind support of the 10 distinguished families, Hotel Okura is privileged to be able to borrow fine collections of art that transcend generations from these families, and recreating the surroundings anew, combining and applying the concepts of “hospitality, design, and presentation”.
